All school families are required to participate in a fundraising program called Scrip. Families purchase gift cards at face value from the school and use the cards in place of cash, checks or credit cards when paying for everyday purchases (groceries, gas, dining out, shopping, etc.). Since the school gets the gift cards at reduced value, they earn a rebate for each card purchased. It’s a simple and convenient fundraiser that parents prefer over selling things like candy, magazines, and wrapping paper. Each school family is required to purchase SCRIP totaling $3000 annually.
Scrip is available for purchase in the school office on weekdays from 7:45-8:10 a.m. and 2:50-3:15 p.m. and in the Gathering Space after Masses on weekends. You can also set up a standing order with the school so that your Scrip comes home automatically with a student. This is particularly helpful for frequent purchases like grocery and gas.
The organization that runs the program, Great Lakes Scrip Center, offers thousands of vendors for Scrip gift cards. The office at St. John Vianney School keeps on hand the most commonly used Scrip cards, but can order anything off the list that you might like. Please feel free visit the Great Lakes Scrip site to check out all that they have to offer. Orders are placed first thing every Monday morning and arrive on Wednesday afternoon. Just let us know if there is anything that you would like to order.
To stay in compliance with government requirements for fundraising, volunteers must do the bulk of the Scrip sales and inventory management. We strongly encourage you to try the standing order plan as this is all done by volunteers and avoids the lines before and after school and at church.
