At St. John Vianney School, we are blessed with a beautiful library containing over 25,000 books and audiobooks. Students in grades K-5 come to the library once each week to check out books, listen to a story, work on projects, read, and participate in community building activities. Students in grades 6-8 are able to visit the library during their study hall period as well as before school and after school. Our up-to-date Library Catalog allows students and parents to search for books, check availability, and reserve materials online.
We utilize the Accelerated Reader program to promote and encourage reading. All students in 2nd through 8th grades have personal reading goals that they strive to complete before the end of the quarter. When students reach their reading goals, we celebrate in the library with photo displays and small prizes.
Students in 4th and 5th grade are also eligible to participate in Battle of the Books. This reading incentive program has students work together in teams to read a list of 30 books and then participate in a competition that tests their comprehension by having them answer questions about the books. Teams compete at the school level for a chance to participate in the All-City Battle of the Books competition.
